In honor of the amazingness that is the new information on the American wizard school, Ilvermorny, I'm posting my review of the Harry Potter books (only about 15 years too late... whoops.) I'm super excited about this American school and all of the future works that I am certain will be coming. Meanwhile, I'm rereading the series again and spend too many hours online reading fan-creations and theories on Tumblr... Tell me your Hogwarts and Ilvermorny houses in a comment! [I'm Hufflepuff and Thunderbird!]
Anyway, I wrote this review last summer for a different project that
My Review of Harry Potter:
What did I do this summer, you ask? Read all the Harry Potter books all in a row (for the first time ever, she says, slightly ashamed of her lateness).
Really though, I read the Sorcerer's Stone when I was in 4th grade, and I've seen all the movies, and get all the references (Tumblr is a great place, by the way), but I'd never actually set out to read all of them, in order, in a row, no stopping... Until today! Well, this month.
I borrowed them on my local public e-book library and finished all 7 in less than 2 weeks.
My love has been fully kindled... My obsession grew. My screenshots and Pinterest boards filled with Harry Potter theories and art and all that good fandom stuff. I joined Pottermore, got sorted (Hufflepuff and proud!)... And Harry Potter has taken over. Not that it's a bad thing at all.
The books are full of such vivid stories, and amazing plots and lovable (or completely hated) characters, and so much more!
I always knew Harry Potter was the forever fandom, and the Golden Trio were who everyone aimed to be... I didn't realize just how quickly I would fall in love with the world, in a way no other books have consumed me. I stayed up into the wee hours of the night, crying over deaths I knew were coming, and laughing at sass I'd seen many a meme for.
That's the real magic of Harry Potter, I think. You get so involved, placing yourself at Hogwarts for the 1st time or 31st time, and always find new magical details and see things in new ways. It's just... Magical!
I'm about 10-15 years late to do a real book review, so I'll give you 9 3/4 reasons why you should read Harry Potter/why I love it, instead!
1) Harry Potter is the coolest 11 year old ever (and eventually coolest adult, too)
2) He has a pet owl
3) Hermione is literally a genius and you want to be as awesome as her
4) Dumbledore is the principal you wish you had in school
5) Magic would be the class you actually paid attention to in school
6) There's something magical (pun intended) about being swept into a world so unrealistically realistic
7) Harry, Ron, and Hermione are who you aim to be as friends, family, and everything else in life
8) The Weasleys are the best family, and the most amazing people, and you want to be adopted by them too
9) House elves, mermaids, and all the other magical creatures
9 3/4) THEY'RE WIZARDS
So. All in all. Read Harry Potter if you haven't. Read them again, if you have.
And the movies are great but don't do the books completely justice, but that's something for another day!
